Keeping in mind that at stake are our precious environment and natural resources, Krungsri has always highlighted the importance of all parties taking accountability for environmental problems. Absent appropriate and timely preventive and corrective actions, our quality of life, economic and social development, as well as life and long-term evolution of living organisms, could be substantially impacted.
In light of this, the Bank has instilled the value of natural resource and environmental conservation in employees through the
'Mangrove Reforestation Activity' as facts became known that mangrove forests are priceless resources of marine and coastal ecosystems, indispensable for the economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Planting mangrove trees will not only help build natural barriers against soil erosion, but also create nature study areas with great biodiversity worth conserving.
Initiated in 2012, the Bank’s Mangrove Reforestation Activity has been organized in collaboration with government agencies and provincial administrative authorities, including the Mangrove Forest Resources Development Station 5 (Chonburi), the Mangrove Resources Administration Center Chonburi Province, the Marine and Coastal Resources Administration Office 2, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, etc. Trees planted by Krungsri volunteers included Red Mangrove, Fish Poison Tree, Spurred Mangrove, and Grey Mangrove, which have 70-80 percent of survival rate depending on soil conditions, sea levels, the strength of winds, and ocean currents.
The Mangrove Reforestation Activity has proved successful in meeting the above-stated objectives, while aligning with the UN Stainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Live Below Water, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
