Care the Bear Project

Care the Bear Project

Recognizing global warming and climate change effects as critical global issues that require collective efforts for achieving desired goals, Krungsri, in 2019, joined the ‘Care the Bear’ project initiated by the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), while expecting all parties in the organization to take part in addressing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming.

In 2018, the SET’s Care the Bear project was initiated under the concept ‘Change the Climate change’ by Eco-Event, wherein public and private business partners as well as social enterprises were invited to help accelerate reducing global warming by lowering greenhouse gas emissions through event organization. Adhering to the ‘Principle of 6 Cares’, the project focuses on behavior change in six dimensions: commuting on sky trains or public transport; reducing the use of paper and plastics; banning foam containers; reducing power consumption; choosing decorative items made from reusable materials for events organized; and serving oneself food in the exact amount one can finish to reduce food waste. Starting June 2018, the project has been participated by at least 50 organizations reducing greenhouse gas emissions by a combined amount of 7,712 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, comparable to planting 856,904 large trees (10 years old). Key network members of the project include Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), while other network members are listed companies, limited companies, government agencies, associations, educational institutes, hotels, meeting venues, and social enterprises.

Joining the Care the Bear project, the Bank not only achieves the goal of having employees engage in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but also responds to the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Performance
  • In 2019, Krungsri managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through this project amounting to 732,119 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents (kgCO2e), comparable to plating 81,347 trees.
  • In 2020, Krungsri reduced GHG emissions by 1,972,599* kgCO2e, comparable to planting 219,176 trees.
  • In 2021, Krungsri reduced GHG emissions by 608,930.04* kgCO2e, comparable to planting 67,658.63 trees
  • In 2022, Krungsri reduced GHG emissions by 1,364,100.11* kgCO2e, comparable to planting 151,563.27 trees.
  • In 2023, Krungsri reduced GHG emissions by 1,532,708.01* kgCO2e, comparable to planting 170,302 trees.
